Heute Morgen war ich schon früh wach und ging um 8 Uhr den Weinreben entlang joggen und auf dem Rückweg bei Maja für einen Espresso vorbei. Da im Hostal das Frühstück nicht inbegriffen war, konnten wir die trockenen Brötchen umgehen und in einem Café an der Plaza, das bestellen, worauf wir Lust hatten und noch gleich meinen letzten Post ins Netz stellen.
This morning I woke up early and went for a run at 8 am along the wineries and on the way back I had an espresso at Maja’s place. Breakfast wasn’t included at the hostel so we were able to avoid the dry bread and went to a café at the plaza to order what we like and had the chance to upload my last post on-line.

Um 11:30 Uhr fuhren wir weiter Richtung Süden und machten eine Stunde später einen Besuch der Ruinen von Quilmes, wo die Spanier 1667 den eingeborenen Stamm Kilmes ausgehungert hatten… ein trauriges Kapitel der Konquista! Da wir einen Pass von 3000 m vor uns hatten und das Benzin langsam zur Neige ging, hatte wir vor zu tanken, aber die einzige Tankstelle weit und breit würde erst am Nachmittag wieder Nachschub erhalten… es waren noch 56 km auf sehr schlechten Strassen (wie allgemein hier in Argentinien) nach Tafí del Valle, die wir glücklicherweise schafften und wo schon eine Schlange von Autos wartete (was wir auch schon oft gesehen haben in diesem Land), die ebenfalls Durst hatten! Nach einer kurzen Visiten der Kunstgewerbegeschäfte fuhren wir weiter durch einen subtropischen Wald, dann durch eine lange trockene Ebene, einen weiteren Pass hinauf bis wir um 19:30 Uhr San Fernande del Valle Catamarca erreichten. Souverän fuhr ich durch die Stadt direkt vors wunderschöne Hotel Casino Catamarca (http://www.hotelcasinocatamarca.com), wo wir uns für 2 Nächte einquartierten.
Um 21 Uhr spazierten wir die 3 Blocks zur Plaza und genossen im Restaurante Richmond ein gutes Essen mit Camarones zur Abwechslung! Hier ist es wieder sehr heiss, so steigt das Thermometer am Tag über 35 Grad und nachts wird es nicht kälter als 23 Grad Celsius…

At 11:30 am we took the road direction south and an hour later we visited the ruins of Quilmes, where the Spaniards had starved out the tribe of Kilmes in 1667… a very sad chapter of the Conquista! We had a pass of 3000 m ahead of us and not much gas left, so we decided to fill up our tank, but the only gas station far and wide would only get gas in the afternoon… we drove on the 56 km to Tafí del Valle on very bad roads (as in general here in Argentina) and luckily made it to the next filling station where lots of other thirsty cars were queuing up (which we had seen lots of times before here in Argentina)! After a short visit at the arts and craft shops we drove through a sub tropic forest, then through a long dry flat plain, another time up a pass until we arrived at San Fernande del Valle Catamarca at 7:30 pm. Masterfully I drove through town directly in front of the beautiful Hotel Casino Catamarca (http://www.hotelcasinocatamarca.com) where we checked in for 2 nights.
At 9 pm we walked the 3 blocks to the plaza and enjoyed a delicious meal with camarones for a change at the Restaurante Richmond! Here we are back in a very hot climate, the thermometer rises over 35 centigrade at day and at night it doesn’t drop under 23 centigrade…
