Am späteren Nachmittag schlenderten wir der Avenida Florida (Fussgängerzone) entlang und dann in das Hafenviertel Puerto Madero, wo wir uns bei Europcar informieren wollten. Wieder war keine Hilfsbereitschaft von den arroganten Argentiniern zu erwarten, alles was uns überreicht wurde war eine Telefonnummer, wo wir uns erkundigen konnten…
Thursday morning the alarm woke us up shortly before 10 am and we went for breakfast. Thereafter we relaxed in the sun at the 12th floor and planned our month here in Argentina reading our guides. We decided to rent a car and drive to Iguazu, Salta and Mendoza… all we had to do now is to find a rental car!
In the late afternoon we strolled along Avenida Florida (pedestrian precinct) and then to the dock area Puerto Madero, where we wanted to inform ourselves about a rental car with Europcar. Again there was no help from the arrogant Argentineans, all they gave us was a telephone number where we could call to get information…

Frustriert setzten wir uns ins Restaurante Campo y Mar in den umgebauten alten Docks und lernten so Pascal und Miguel kennen, die uns Uruguay anpriesen und eine Flasche Champagner spendierten. Wir genossen den lauen Abend, blieben auch gleich zum Abendessen und bestellten uns eine herrliche Seezunge!
Am Freitag Morgen waren wir relativ früh wach und machten uns im Internet schlau um ein Auto zu mieten - ziemlich schwierig hier, weil am 1. Januar alles geschlossen scheint! Nach dem Frühstück hatte Doris die glorreiche Idee an der Reception Hilfe zu holen und war prompt erfolgreich! Wir reservierten ein Auto, das uns am 1. Januar ins Hotel gebracht wird und mit dem wir einen Monat Argentinien erkunden werden…
Friday morning we woke up relatively early and searched in the web for rental cars – which seems quite difficult here as everything is closed on the 1st of January! After breakfast Doris had the glorious idea to ask help at the reception and luckily was successful! We reserved a car which will be delivered on the 1st of January to the hotel and with which we will drive through Argentina for a month…
Frustrated we sat down in the Restaurante Campo y Mar at the reconstructed docks and got to know Pascal and Miguel who recommended Uruguay as a nice country to visit and bought us a bottle of champagne. We enjoyed the mild evening, stayed there for dinner and ordered a delicious sole!

Jetzt hatten wir Zeit einen anderen Stadtteil von Buenos Aires auszukundschaften und entschieden uns für Palermo. Bevor wir losgingen erhielt ein e-mail von Torsten, den ich im Hotel Panamby in Sao Paolo kennengelernt hatte, der heute in Buenos Aires angekommen war und sein Hotel in Palermo Soho hat, so verabredeten wir uns mit ihm um 16 Uhr in einem Restaurant... Mit der U-Bahn kamen wir rasch in die Nähe dieses hübschen Stadtteils und waren pünktlich beim verabredeten Ort. Wir tauschen unsere Neuigkeiten aus und schlenderten durch Palermo bis wir schliesslich hungrig in einem Cafe einen Aperitif nahmen bis wir um 20 Uhr im Restaurante El Escondida endlich ein herzhaftes Stück Fleisch geniessen konnten.
Am Samstag Morgen sassen wir wieder um 10 Uhr beim Frühstück und verdauten es anschliessend auf der Terrasse an der Sonne… Danach packten wir unsere Koffer um, denn sehr wahrscheinlich brauchen wir die warmen Kleider erst wieder in der Schweiz! ; ) Wir feierten sicherheitshalber schon einmal den Ausklang des alten Jahres mit einer Flasche Champagner und danach setzte ich mich erst einmal an den Laptop um den Post der letzten Tage zu schreiben während Doris sich mit der U-Bahn auf nach Recoleta machte. Meine Rückenschmerzen sind zeitweise so schlimm, dass ich kaum einen Schritt machen kann!
Um 19 Uhr machten wir uns auf um in Puerto Madero etwas essen zu gehen… aber oho, alle Restaurants hatten exklusive Silvester Menus und waren meist ausgebucht! So entschieden wir uns Richtung San Telmo zu gehen um irgendwo dort ein Restaurant zu finden. Das fanden wir wieder am Plaza Dorrengo, es war zwar auch ein festes Menu, aber wenigstens draussen auf der Plaza und mit Tango Unterhaltung. Die Vorspeise war so la la und die Hauptspeise, ein Filet Mignon, war nur trocken und überkocht… wir gaben es 3 Mal zurück, und es wurde nicht besser und wir assen es nicht. Plötzlich war Mitternacht und alle begannen auf der Plaza herumzulaufen und sich zuzuprosten – und wir liefen Richtung Hotel, ohne zu bezahlen! Als Zechpreller liefen wir durch die Strassen und stiessen plötzlich auf einen Haufen Leute, die sich draussen vor einem Restaurant zuprosteten. Wir gingen an die Bar und fragten, wo der Champagner sei – und schon war er hier! Nach einem lustigen aber halt nicht sehr ehrenwerten Abend erreichten wir müde und zum Glück unversehrt das Hotel…
Wir wünschen euch allen nur das Beste fürs 2011 - geniesst die guten Momente und macht das Beste aus den weniger guten!

Now we had time to discover another quarter of Buenos Aires, we decided to go to Palermo. Before we went off I received an e-mail from Torsten, who I got to know at the Panamby hotel in Sao Paolo, he had just arrived at Buenos Aires and stayed in Palermo, so we agreed to meet him at 4 pm there… By tube we reached the pretty quarter of Palermo Soho in no time and met Torsten in the café as agreed upon. Together we strolled through Palermo and finally had an appetizer in a café until the Restaurante El Escondida opened for dinner to have a savoury piece of meat.
Saturday morning again we sat at breakfast at 10 am and digested it thereafter on the terrace in the sun… Thereafter we repacked our suitcases due to the fact that we most probably will use our warm cloth only when back in Switzerland! ; ) Preventively we celebrated the end of the year with a bottle of champagne and thereafter I sat on my laptop to write my post of the last days while Doris went to Recoleta by tube. At times my back pain is so bad that I hardly can take a step!
At 7 pm we walked to Puerto Madero to have dinner… but oh gosh, all restaurants had set menus for Sylvester eve and mostly were fully booked! So we decided to walk direction San Telmo to have dinner there somewhere, which we found again in a restaurant at the Plaza Dorrengo. It was also a set menu, but at least outside on the plaza with tango entertainment. The entree was O.K. and the main course, a filet mignon, was just dry and overcooked… we gave it back 3 times and it didn’t get better so we didn’t eat it. Suddenly at midnight everyone at the plaza started to walk around and raised their glasses – and we walked direction hotel, without paying! As bill-dodgers we walked through the streets and met a crowd of people outside of a restaurant raising their glasses. We went straight to the bar and asked where the champagne was – and here it came! After a merry but not really reputable night we arrived tiered and luckily unharmed the hotel…
