Heute war der 38. Geburtstag von Doris, und wie bereits erwähnt, kam sie sehr spät in der Nacht zurück und war dementsprechend noch im Koma, als ich um 8 Uhr schon fit aufstand. Der Schlaf hatte mir gut getan und die Übelkeit war verschwunden! Da wir um 10:30 Uhr auschecken mussten, machte ich mich reisefertig, fuhr zum nächsten Café um meinen Morgenenergieschub mit einem doppelten Espresso zu holen, stellte das Auto vors Hotel und weckte Doris. Etwas morgenmufflig und sehr widerwillig stand sie auf, ich ging inzwischen zum Frühstück und informierte mich auf Karten und im Reiseführer über unsere Weiterreise.
Today was the 38th anniversary of Dori, and as mentioned before, she came back last night very late and accordingly was still in a coma when I got up at 8 am feeling very fit! A good rest and sleep is the best medicine and consequently I felt well again this morning! Because we had to check out at 10:30 am I made myself ready for departure, drove to the next café to get my morning kick with a double espresso, parked the car in front of the hotel and woke up Doris. She was a bit grumpy and reluctant to get up, so I went for breakfast in the meantime and informed myself by maps and guidebook how to travel on.

Kurz vor 11 Uhr waren wir tatsächlich bereit unsere Fahrt zurück durch Misiones nach Corrientes anzutreten… Nach einer Stunde erreichten wir Puerto Libertad, wo es Minen mit Halbedelsteinen hat, die wir natürlich besuchen wollten. Eine Naturstrasse führte uns durch Dickicht zu der Mina Santa Catalina, wo wir sehen konnten, wie die riesigen Halbedelsteine in den Felsen ausgepickelt wurden. Eine Stunde später ging es weiter und um 15:30 Uhr machten wir eine Pause in einem Restaurant in Jardín América um uns mit einer Kleinigkeit zu stärken, denn es lagen noch 400 km bis zum Tagesziel Corrientes vor uns! Zum ersten Mal zeigten sich Gewitterwolken unterwegs, und zwei Mal gab es einen Regenschauer, was die Temperatur für kurze Zeit von 40 auf 30 Grad sinken liess…
Shortly before 11 am we indeed were ready to carry on out drive through Misiones to Corrientes… After an hour we reached Puerto Libertad where there are mines of semiprecious stones which of course we had to see. A dirt road led us through thicket to the mines of Santa Catalina where we could see how they dig the huge semiprecious stones out of the rocks. An hour later we drove on and made an energy stop in one of the restaurants in Jardín América at 3:30 pm as there were still about 400 km ahead to Corrientes! For the first time on our trip there were thunderclouds in the sky and two times it rained which let the temperatures of 40 drop to 30 centigrade for a short time…

Um 19:30 Uhr erreichten wir die Stadtgrenze von Corrientes und standen 2 Stunden im Stau bis wir die Costanera erreichten, wo wir ein Hotel suchen wollten. In der Gegend war ein Fest eines Heiligen, das Leute aus der ganzen Gegend angezogen hatte, die nun alle wieder durch Corrientes in ihre Wohnorte zurückfahren mussten! Um 22 Uhr erreichten wir endlich nach langem Suchen (ohne Stadtplan!) das Turismo Hotel Casino (http://www.turismohotelcasino.com) und ich lud Doris zum Geburtstag für die Nacht in eine riesige Suite ein… ich handelte mit der Reception einen Check-out um 13 Uhr aus, so dass wir es morgen noch etwas geniessen könnten hier! Kurz nachdem wir uns etwas eingerichtet hatten, liefen wir der Costanera entlang zum Restaurante Cristóbal und genossen auf der Terrasse eine Parrillada (verschiedenes gegrilltes Fleisch) mit einer Flasche Malbec und liessen so den Geburtstag ausklingen…

At 7:30 pm we reached the outskirts of Corrientes and were stuck in traffic for 2 hours until we reached the Costanera where we intended to look for a hotel. There was a festival of a local saint in the region going on which attracted lots of people who all had to find their way back home through Corrientes! At 10 pm we finally arrived at the Turismo Hotel Casino (http://www.turismohotelcasino.com) after quite a long search without a city map and I invited Doris for her birthday for a night in a huge suite… I negotiated a check-out for 1 pm with the reception to be able to enjoy it a bit tomorrow! Shortly after having installed us we walked along the Costanera to the Restaurante Cristóbal to have a Parrillada (different grilled meat) and a bottle of Malbec on the terrace, to have a decent end of her birthday…
