Vor dem Frühstück ging ich der Küste entlang joggen, nahm ein heisses Bad und befand mich um 11 Uhr beim Frühstück. Danach hiess es packen und mein neues Auto für einen Monat bei Paolo von Europcar in Empfang nehmen! Um 13 Uhr war der Peugeot 207 mit meinem Gepäck beladen und es ging los Richtung Süden.
Before breakfast I went for a run along the coast, back in the hotel I took a hot bath and went down for breakfast at 11 am. Thereafter I packed my suitcases and received my car from Paolo of Europcar to drive down to the south for one month! At 1 pm my luggage was stowed in the Peugeot 207 and off I went direction south.

Ich fuhr 200 km durch die Wüste mit meiner Musik, denn das Pöschöli verfügt über allerlei Inputs, wo ich sogar meinen iPod anschliessen kann – so geilo! 1 ½ Stunden später zweigte ich zum Observatorio Cerro Paranal (ESO European Southern Observatory) ab, wusste aber dass die offiziellen Besuchstage immer Ende Monat sind. Trotzdem wollte ich von nahe sehen und ein Foto schiessen. Markus Spielmann, ein deutscher Sicherheitsbeamte, erklärte mir, dass er mich gerne herein gelassen hätte, aber wegen des starkes Erdbeben vor 10 Minuten seien sie nun alles am Durchchecken… das hatte ich während dem Fahren gar nicht gemerkt wie auch, dass ich mich wieder auf 2600 m befand!
I drove 200 km through the desert listening to my music because the Peugeot is equipped with various inputs and I can even plug in my iPod – just great! 1 ½ hours later I turned right to the Observatorio Cerro Paranal (ESO European Southern Observatory) knowing the official visitor days were only at the end of the month. Nevertheless I wanted to see it close up and take some pictures. Markus Spielmann, a German security official, explained that he would have let me in but after the heavy earthquake just 10 minutes ago they are checking everything through… I hadn’t felt it while driving as well I hadn’t noticed that I was again up on 2600 m!

Eine Stunde später erreichte ich Paposo, das an die Küste im Nebel lag. Ich fuhr einer spektakulären Strecke 50 km direkt dem Meer entlang, stoppte einige Male um die Landschaft auf Fotos festzuhalten und erreichte schliesslich um 16:30 Uhr Taltal. Taltal war früher die Grenze zu Bolivien, als der nördlichste Teil Chiles noch zu Bolivien gehörte. Ich checkte in der Hosteria Taltal (http://taltalhosteria.galeon.com), das Guillermo gestern für mich reseviert hatte, direkt am Meer ein und machte mich der Strandpromenade entlang auf Entdeckungsreise. Einige Meter weiter schon stiess ich auf das Restaurante El Rincon de Corwatt und informierte mich über die Öffnungszeiten. Patricio, der Besitzer lud mich für einen Pisco Sour ein, wir hatten interessante Gespräche und verabredeten uns für später um Scampi und frischen Fisch zu essen...An hour later I drove down to the coast and arrived at Paposo in the fog. A spectacular stretch of 50 km directly on the ocean took me to Taltal which I arrived at 4:30 pm. Taltal once was the border to Bolivia when the most northern part of Chile still belonged to Bolivia. I checked in at the Hosteria Taltal (http://taltalhosteria.galeon.com) on the beach, which Guillermo had reserved for me last night and soon after walked along the sea front to discover Taltal. Only a few meters later I came across the Restaurante El Rincon de Corwatt and informed myself about the opening hours. Patricio the owner invited me for a Pisco Sour, we had interesting conversations and we agreed on having king prawns and fresh fish for dinner later on…

Zurück ging ich durch das Städtchen, das mir mit seinem Mix aus grosszügigen Anlagen, alten Häusern, Palmen, farbige Blumen und Pflanzen mit den kahlen Bergen im Hintergrund sehr gut gefällt. Das Beste aber sind die total netten Leute hier! Zurück im Hotel machte ich ein Nickerchen und ging um 22 Uhr zurück ins Restaurante El Rincon de Corwatt, wo Patricio mich zu einem herrlichen Essen einlud!

I walked back through town which appealed to me very much with its mix of lavish facilities, old houses, palm trees, flowers and plants in lots of different colours all in the setting of stark mountains. The best of all were the utmost friendly people her! Back at the hotel I took a nap and went back to the Restaurante El Rincon de Corwatt at 10 pm where Patricio invited me for a delicious dinner!
