16.11.2011 Chile: Viña del Mar – Santiago de Chile

Auch heute Morgen ging ich dem Strand entlang joggen, diesmal in Viña del Mar. Danach ging’s zum Starbucks um den obligaten doppelten Espresso zu holen bevor ich mich um 10 Uhr zum Frühstück ins Hotel setzte und meinen Blog aktualisierte.

Nachdem ich alles wieder in mein Pöschöli geladen hatte fuhr ich ins Mall Marina Arauco um mich bei LAN über die Osterinsel zu informieren… diese scheint aber gut ausgebucht zu sein und ich bin nicht willig für 3 Tage USD 2‘000 zu bezahlen! Vielleicht gibt es später noch eine andere Möglichkeit?

Also this morning I went jogging along the beach, this time in Viña del Mar. Thereafter I had my obligatory double espresso at Starbucks and went for breakfast at the hotel at 10 am where I also updated my blog.

After having loaded everything in my little Peugeot I drove to the Mall Marina Arauco to inform myself about the Easter Island at the LAN office… but it seems to be booked well and I’m not willing to pay USD 2’000 for 3 days! Maybe there will be another opportunity later on?

Brando & Bill, Casino de Viña del Mar

Danach ging es der Küste entlang nach Süden nach Valparaiso wo ich auf der Terrasse im legendären Hotel Brighton einen weiteren Espresso und die Aussicht auf die Stadt genoss. Als ich mich weiter auf nach Süden machen wollte erhielt ich eine Nachricht von Brando und Bill, die gerade in Viña del Mar waren… ich änderte meine Pläne und fuhr ihnen entgegen!

Nun war es bereits 15:30 Uhr und da die beiden nach Santiago de Chile zurück fuhren und ich das später auch vor hatte, entschloss ich mich den weiteren Süden für später nach Santiago aufzusparen. Sie führten mich (hatten Navigationssystem!) aus der Stadt und eine Stunde später befand ich mich in der Metropole.Ich folgte den Wegweisern ‘Las Condes‘, wie mir Alejandro (den ich vor einer Woche in Antofagasta kennen gelernt hatte) empfohlen hatte und fand im Hotel Leonardo da Vinci (http://www.hotelleonardodavinci.cl/) wieder einmal das letzte freie Zimmer. Ich buchte gleich für 2 Nächte und räumte zuerst einmal meine Koffer aus um zu sehen, was da eigentlich alles drin ist! ; )

Am Abend holte mich Alejandro ab und machte eine Tour durch Las Condes, das sich als sehr sauberes, ruhiges und modernes Viertel Santiagos entpuppte mit vielen Restaurants und Bars - im Restaurante Don Carlos verzehrte ich ein 300 g Filet zum Abendessen (Hansruedi: Kleinere gibt es nicht und es war superzart, fast wie bei Zihlmäxu!)…

An der Küste war es übrigens eher kühl mit 20 Grad Celsius, dagegen in Santiago stieg mein Thermometer auf 30 Grad! Am Abend kühlte es aber um 20 Grad ab, also war es noch max. 10 Grad Celsius…

Thereafter I drove south along the coast to Valparaiso where I had another espresso on the terrace of the fabulous Hotel Brighton and enjoyed the view over the city. (Renato: Sorry! I was at the Brighton Hotel having a coffee on the terrace this afternoon... I didn't know you have an office in Valparaiso! But I understand now why you have so many pictures of this town!!! Do you have an e-mail address? I don’t know how to contact you. How is life? Que te vaya bien!) Just when I wanted to drive on south I got a message of Brando and Bill who were in Viña del Mar just then… I changed my plans and took the road back towards them!

Now it was already 3:30 pm and as the two were driving back to Santiago de Chile and I intended to later on as well I decided to leave the South for later after Santiago. They guided me out of town (having a navigation system) and an hour later I already was in the metropolis. I followed the sign for ‘Las Condes‘ as Alejandro (who I had met a week ago in Antofagasta) had suggested and found once again the last room in the Hotel Leonardo da Vinci (http://www.hotelleonardodavinci.cl). I booked the room for 2 nights and first packed all my stuff out of my suitcases to have an overlook what I have got in there! ; )

In the evening Alejandro picked me up and showed me around Las Condes which turned out to be a very clean, quiet and modern quarter of Santiago with lots of restaurants and bars – I had a 300 g tenderloin, best of its kind, in the Restaurante Don Carlos for dinner…

By the way, it was quite chilly on the coast with around 20 centigrade, whereas my thermometer rose up to 30 degrees in Santiago! In the evening it cooled down 20 degrees, consequently it was max. 10 centigrade…
