Lago Lanalhue

Heute Morgen lud mich strahlender Sonnenschein und ein grosser, flacher Vulkanstrand zum Joggen ein… danach genoss ich das Frühstück in meiner Cabaña, verabschiedete mich von Yessenia und Monica und machte mich um 13 Uhr auf den Weg. Ich entschied mich 60 km zurück nach Norden zu fahren und entlang dem Lago Lanalhue ins Landesinnere Richtung Temuco zu fahren, denn ich hatte keine Lust auf 30 km Schotterpiste Richtung Süden!

This morning bright sunshine and a long, flat volcanic beach invited me for a run… thereafter I enjoyed breakfast in my cabaña, said goodbye to Yessenia and Monica and set off. I decided to drive back 60 km north and take the road along the Lago Lanalhue inland towards Temuco because I didn’t feel like driving 30 km on dirt roads direction south!

Nun befand ich mich in der chilenischen Schweiz (die 9. von 15 Regionen): Sehr grün, viele Seen und Kühe! Um 15:30 Uhr machte ich einen Espressohalt im Café Tasska in Traiguen, wo ich auch meinen vorbereiteten Post ins Netz stellte und meine e-mails abrief. Danach ging es weiter nach Temuco, das ich um 18 Uhr erreichte. Da die Stadt nicht gerade einladend wirkte, fuhr ich auf den Hausberg Cerrro Nielol und danach ca. 100 km weiter ins Landesinnere nach Villarrica. Der Anblick des schneebedeckten gleichnamigen Vulkan (2582 m) unterwegs versetzte mich ins Staunen…

Now I could clearly see that I was in Chilean Switzerland: very green, lots of lakes and cows! At 3:30 pm I stopped at the Café Tasska in Taiguen to have some espressos, uploaded my prepared post and checked my e-mails. Thereafter I drove on to Temuco where I arrived at 6 pm. Because the city didn’t appeal to me I visited its backyard hill Cerrro Nielol and took the road 100 km further inland to Villarrica. The sight of the snowcapped same-named volcano (2582 m) on the way simply astonished me…

In Villarrica angekommen fuhr ich zum See (hat auch den gleichen Namen) und fand in der Hosteria Hue-Quimey (http://www.hosteriahue-quimey.cl/) ein wunderschönes Zimmer mit Aussicht auf den See und die Berge, unter anderem dem Vulkan Villarrica. Die Besitzer Nicola aus Toulouse und Christel vom Bodensee sind rührende Gastgeber, so wurde mir eine Kanne mit heissem Wasser und Teesortiment ins Zimmer gebracht und meine Wäsche bis morgen (zum Kilopreis) gewaschen… Um 21 Uhr lief ich ins Zentrum und fand im Restaurante Tejuelas das geeignete Lokal um mit einem Filet, einer Flasche Undurraga Pinot (Cabernet Sauvignon) und Tipps für die Weiterreise von Gonzalos und Pablo den schönen Tag zu beenden.

When I arrived at Villarrica I drove to the lake (identically named as well) and found a beautiful room with view to the lake and mountains including the volcano Villarrica in the Hosteria Hue-Quimey (http://www.hosteriahue-quimey.cl). The owners Nicola from Toulouse and Christel from the Lake of Constance are perfect hosts: they sent me a thermos with hot water and a range of teas and will do my laundry until tomorrow (price by kilo)… Around 9 pm I walked to the centre and found the Restaurante Tejuelas the perfect location to finish a wonderful day with a tenderloin, a bottle of Undurraga Pinot (Cabernet Sauvignon) (Cristian: This really is one of the best red wines!) and hints for the continuation of my journey from Gonzalo and Pablo.
