17.11.2011 Chile: Santiago de Chile

Heute stand ein ruhiger Tag bevor, denn ich hatte alle Zeit der Welt! Um 9:30 Uhr ging ich gemütlich frühstücken und studierte den Stadtplan sowie las in meinem Reiseführer nach, was ich in Santiago nicht verpassen durfte. Nach dem Frühstück schrieb ich meinen Post von gestern und lud ihn aufs Netz.

Today there was a calm day lying ahead due to having all the time in the world! At 9:30 am I went for a long breakfast, studied the maps and consulted my guide what not to miss in Santiago. After breakfast I wrote my post of yesterday and put it online.



Las Condes, Santiago de Chile



Um 13 Uhr war ich bereit für die Stadteroberung und lief zuerst der Isadora Goyenechea entlang um Las Condes bei Tag zu sehen – sehr grün und glasig! Eine Stunde später betrat ich das Reisebüro Royalblue, wo Bita für mich Möglichkeiten für die Osterinsel und Robinson Crusoe auskundschaftete… beides war im Moment nicht möglich oder dann eben viel zu teuer!

At 1 pm I was ready to conquer the city and first walked along Isadora Goyenechea to see Las Condes by day – very green and glassy! An hour later I entered the travel agency Royalblue where Bita investigated possibilities to go to the Easter Island and Robinson Crusoe for me… both was at the moment not possible or as mentioned before much too costly!

Danach stieg ich in die Metro und fuhr ins Quartier Bella Vista, wo ich La Chascone, das Stadthaus von Pablo Neruda besichtigte. Ich kaufte mir sogar die ‘Veinte Poemas de Amor‘ als Andenken!

Thereafter I went by metro to the quarter Bella Vista where I visited La Chascone, the townhouse of Pablo Neruda. I even bought the ‘Veinte Poemas de Amor’ as a souvenir! (Alejandro: Thank you for your nice suggestion!)

Brando & Bill



Nicht weit davon entfernt befindet sich die Standseilbahn zum Cerro San Cristóbal, ich kaufte mir ein Ticket und liess mich auf den Stadtberg hinauffahren. Als ich eifrig die Aussicht auf Santiago am fotografieren war standen plötzlich Bill und Brando vor meiner Linse! Unglaublich!!! Ich dachte, dass die Alaska – Feuerland Motorradfahrer heute schon wieder unterwegs sein würden… wir konnten es alle drei nicht fassen! So kam ich sogar zu einer Fahrt auf einem Motorrad hier in Chile, ich durfte mit Bill hinunterfahren, wo wir unser unerwartetes Wiedersehen im Restaurante Backstage im Patio Bella Vista feierten…

A bit further up is the funicular to the Cerro San Cristóbal where I bought a ticket and had me driven up the hill. When I was eagerly taking pictures of the view of Santiago Bill and Brando suddenly were standing in front of my lens! Unbelievable!!! I thought the Alaska – Tierra del Fuego motorcyclists were already on their way south today… all three of us couldn’t believe it! That’s how I even got around to a motorcycle drive in Chile as Bill drove me down to Patio Bella Vista where we celebrated our unexpected reunion in the Restaurante Backstage…



Plaza de Armas, Santiago de Chile

Um 19 Uhr nahm ich die Metro ins Zentrum zur Plaza de Armas und lief der grosszügigen Fussgängerzone entlang zur nächsten Metrostation, die mich zurück ins Hotel brachte.

Ausgeruht und die Koffer reisebereit für morgen lief ich um 22:30 Uhr zur Isadora Goyenechea, wo sich die vielen Restaurants und Bars befinden. Ich hatte Lust auf Fisch und wählte deshalb das hübsche kleine Restaurante Terraza Isidora, wo sich Cristian, der Besitz gleich zu mir an den Tisch setzte und Menükarte spielte. Wurde das ein unterhaltsamer Abend mit Krabbenbeinen (Nadine: Erinnerst du dich noch? Die hatten wir doch auch bei Erich im Orixas! Mmmhhhhh…), Salat mit Scampi und viel Chardonnay! Später setzten sich noch Paola und Robertino an unseren Tisch, die mich einluden, morgen auf meinem Weg an der Küste bei ihnen in Rocas de Santo Domingo vorbeizuschauen. Am Schluss fuhr mich Cristian zum Hotel zurück, er war etwas besorgt um mich und ich war froh darüber denn ich hatte den ganzen Tag schon genug auf meinen Füssen zurückgelegt!

At 7 pm I took the metro to the Plaza de Armas in the centre and walked along the pedestrian precinct to the next metro station which brought me back to the hotel.

Rested and my suitcases ready packed for tomorrow I walked around 10:30 pm to the Isadora Goyenechea where all the restaurants and bars are. I fancied seafood and therefore choose the little pretty Restaurante Terraza Isidora, where Cristian the owner joined me on my table and acted as menu card. What an amusing evening we had with crab legs (Erich: like we had with you in the Orixas!), salad with king prawns and lots of Chardonnay! Later on Paola and Robertino joined us at our table and invited me to come and see them tomorrow in Rocas de Santo Domingo on my way along the coast. At the end Cristian drove me back to the hotel as he was a bit concerned about me and I was happy as I had been walking a lot already today!
