Heute Morgen erwachte ich ziemlich früh, begann den gestrigen Post zu schreiben, e-mails zu beantworten und meine Weiterreise zu planen. Um 11 Uhr brachte man mir ein herrliches Frühstück ins Zimmer und um 12 Uhr war ich bereit für die Abfahrt Richtung Copiapó und von dort in die Anden…

In Copiapó tankte ich nochmals voll (jetzt habe ich sogar eine Anzeige, die mir sagt wie viele Kilometer das Benzin noch reicht!) und machte mich auf die 250 km Naturstrassen. Alle 500 m Steigung war beschildert und obwohl ich nur 2 Pässe fuhr stieg die Strasse unmerklich an und schon bald erreichte ich auf 4000 m den Parque Nacional Tres Cruces und den Salar de Maricunga.
In Copiapó I fuelled the tank (now I even have a display which shows me how far the gasoline will last!) and headed off to hit the 250 km dirt roads. Every 500 m elevation was indicated and even though I only drove up 2 passes the road rose imperceptibly and soon I reached the Parque Nacional Tres Cruces and the Salar de Maricunga on 4000 m.

Um 16 Uhr erreichte ich den chilenischen Zoll und der Beamte war ganz erstaunt, dass ich alleine vorhatte bis zu der Laguna Verde zu fahren. Er erklärte mir dass es noch ca. 1 ½ Stunden bis dorthin ist und dass der Zoll um 19 Uhr schliesst – also hatte ich gerade genug Zeit! Die Landschaft ist einfach atemberaubend hier, ich denke die Bilder sprechen für sich… und schon bald sah ich den Ojos del Salado (6893 m), den höchsten Berg Chiles und zweithöchster Berg Südamerikas und zweithöchster Vulkan der Welt!
At 4 pm I arrived at the Chilean customs and the officer was very amazed that I intended to go to the Laguna Verde all by myself. He explained that it will take me another 1 ½ hour to get there and that the costumes will be closed at 7 pm – just time to do it! The landscape is simply breathtaking, I guess the pictures are speaking for themselves… and soon I spotted the Ojos del Salado (6893 m), the highest mountain of Chile, the second highest mountain of South America and the world’s second highest volcano (Alejandro: Is that correct so? This crazy trip was really worth it!)!

Um 17:15 Uhr erstaunte ich vom Anblick der Laguna Verde auf 4600 m und von vielen 6000-er umringt! Um 18:30 Uhr war ich zurück beim Zoll und der Beamte freute sich sichtlich darüber. Beim Zurückfahren hatte ich noch ein Dessert: Einen platten Reifen, aber schon bald nahte Hilfe in Form des Lastwagenchauffeurs Carlos, der das Rad im Nu wechselte! Dieser Ausflug von 500 km auf 4600 m und zurück in 7 Stunden hat sich absolut gelohnt, ich bin sehr stolz auf mich! ; )
Zurück in Copiapó erhielt ich das letzte Zimmer im Hotel Archi (http://www.archihotel.cl/) mit einem abgeschlossenen Parkplatz und WiFi und lief zum nahen Plaza um in der Restobar Or ein richtiges Filet zu verspeisen – das hatte ich verdient!

At 5:15 pm the stunning view of the Laguna Verde on 4600 m surrounded by mountains all over 6000 m overwhelmed me! At 6:30 pm I was back at the costumes and the officer was noticeably pleased. When driving back I had my desert: a flat tyre, but soon help approached in from of Carlos a lorry driver who changed the wheel in no time! This excursion of 500 km up to 4600 m and back in 7 hours was worth it, I’m really proud of myself having done it! ; )
Back in Copiapó I got the last room in the Hotel Archi (http://www.archihotel.cl) with a locked park area and WiFi and walked to the close Plaza where I had a nice tenderloin in the Restobar Or – I really deserved that!
