Um 9 Uhr war ich so halbwegs wach und lief mit der Fotokamera bewaffnet um die Ecke einen doppelten Espresso holen und ins Dorf um die verschlafene Morgenstimmung festzuhalten. Zurück im Hotel sass ich eine Stunde später beim Frühstück und schrieb meinen Post von gestern. Bill und Brando kamen sich verabschieden, sie fuhren zu den heissen Quellen. Wer weiss, wann sich unsere Wege wieder kreuzen werden…
At 9 am I was almost awake and walked armed with my camera around the corner to have a double espresso and into the village to capture the sleepy morning mood. Back at the hotel an hour later I went for breakfast and wrote my post of yesterday. Bill and Brando came to say goodbye, they were driving up to the hot springs. Who knows when our paths will cross again…

Um 11:30 Uhr waren alle Fotos aufgeladen, mein Auto reisebereit und ich somit auch! Die 300 km Fahrt nach Antofagasta legte ich in 3 ½ Stunden zurück (inklusive Fahrt durch die Stadt) und stand somit pünktlich um 15 Uhr bei José Alejandro und seiner Madis Rent a Car vor der Tür um den Corsa nach total 2000 km abzugeben. Er fuhr mich zum Panamericana Hotel Antofagasta (http://www.panamericanahoteles.cl/antofagasta.html), damit ich mich dort in Ruhe im Internet für meine Weiterreise informieren konnte…
Es war wie nach Hause kommen! Guillermo hatte Dienst und stand mir mit allen Anliegen zur Hilfe: Er erkundigte sich über Busverbindungen nach und Hotels in Taltal. Da Europcar im Hotel stationiert ist, ging ich nochmals bei Paolo vorbei und zeigte ihm die Offerte, die mir Manuel in Arica gemacht hatte. Er klärte alles ab, rief sogar bei Hertz für eine Vergleichsofferte an und bestätigte mir am Ende, dass ich ab morgen ein Auto zur Verfügung habe, das ich in einem Monat in Puerto Montt abgeben kann! Es ist zwar sündhaft teuer, dafür kann ich ziemlich weit runter in den Süden fahren und bin flexibel! Guillermo machte mir wieder den Spezialpreis und ich erhielt wieder die Nummer 328 – war das schön in mein grosses geräumiges Zimmer zurückzukehren!
Nun hatte ich auch endlich die Gelegenheit im Restaurante Club de Yates zu Abend zu essen, letzte Woche war ich zweimal vergebens angerannt (war am Feiertag geschlossen). Es war es wert: Ich wurde vom Chef persönlich begrüsst und er fragte auf was ich Lust habe – so servierte er mir eine frische Seezunge mit Gemüse und einem herrlichen Kartoffelpüree (die Kartoffeln hier in Südamerika sind einfach super!) an einem Tisch mit wunderschöner Aussicht auf den Hafen.
Zurück im Hotel wollte ich eigentlich früh schlafen gehen, aber da traf ich Alejandro aus Santiage de Chile, der als Anwalt für bhpbilliton arbeitet (Usch: Kennst du ihn?)… wir sassen draussen auf der Terrasse bei Pisco Sour und sinnierten über das Reisen und Leben prinzipiell…
Wenn wir schon vom sinnieren reden, Antofagasta war der perfekte Ausgangsort um den Norden Chiles zu bereisen und das Panamericana Hotel Antofagasta das richtige Hotel, das mir meine beiden Mietautos verschaffte!
Mit meinen neuen Plänen, dem Rauschen des Meeres und den Lauten der Möwen werde ich sicher gut schlafen!

At 11:30 am all the pictures were uploaded, my car packed and I was ready to hit the road! It was like coming home! Guillermo was on duty and helped my with everything I needed: He checked the bus connections to and the hotels in Taltal. Euorpcar has a branch office in the hotel so I visited Paolo and showed him the offer I had got from Manuel in Arica. He checked everything, he even called Hertz to get a quotation to compare and at the end he confirmed that I will have a car for one month which I will drop off in Puerto Montt! It is outrageously expensive but in return I can drive down south as far as possible and I be flexible! Guillermo made me again a special price – what a treat it was to return to my big spacious room no 328!
Now I also finally had the opportunity to dine in the Restaurante Club de Yates, last week I ran against closed doors twice (it was closed because of the public holiday). It was worth it: The owner himself welcomed me and asked me about my wishes – so he served me a fresh sole with vegetables and mashed potatoes (the potatoes here in South America are simply the best!) sitting at a table with a scenic view over the port.
Back at the hotel I intended to go to bed early but then met Alejandro from Santiage de Chile, who works as a lawyer for bhpbilliton… we sat outside on the terrace having a pisco sour and philosophizing about travelling and life in general…
Speaking of travelling: Antofagasta was the perfect starting point to travel the north of Chile and the Panamericana Hotel Antofagasta the appropriate hotel to provide the rental cars for me!
Having new plans in my mind, listening to the rush of the waves and the sound of the seagulls I surely will sleep well!
