Am Morgen als ich um 10 Uhr das Frühstück draussen einnahm, war es schon ziemlich heiss und es wurde 35 Grad Celsius! Ich verbrachte den Mittag am und im Pool und entschied mich erst am späteren Nachmittag weiterzufahren, nicht nur um der grössten Hitze auszuweichen, zudem hatte sich mein Plan durch das Valle Hurtado zu fahren geändert, da dort die Strassen in einem ganz schlechten Zustand sind…

This morning when I had breakfast at 10 am outside it was already quite hot and it turned 35 centigrade later on! I spent the noon at and in the pool and decided to drive on only in the later afternoon to omit the big heat and because I had changed my plan to drive through the Valle Hurtado due to the bad road conditions…

Nachdem ich meinen neusten Post aufgeladen hatte machte ich mich um 16 Uhr auf zurück nach La Serena um dort auf der Panamericana Richtung Süden zu fahren. An der Küste angekommen war es 15 Grad kälter, also nur noch 20 Grad Celsius! Die Panamericana ist eine richtige Autobahn ab La Serena so kam ich mit 120 km/h schnell voran und erreichte um 18 Uhr das Valle Encanto, 200 km südlicher. Hier findet man überall Spuren wie Petroglyphen von indianischen Kulturen, die vor ca. 4‘000 Jahren hier lebten.

Nach einem kurzen Besuch im Valle Encanto fuhr ich weiter der Panamericana entlang Richtung Süden und ausser Nebel war 150 km kein Dorf geschweige denn ein Hotel zu erkennen! Um 20:30 Uhr kam ich in Los Vilos an und quartierte mich im Hotel Lord Willow (www.hotellordwillow.cl) ein, wo Claudio und sein Minenkumpel mir zur Hilfe kamen, als sie mein vieles Gepäck sahen und die Koffer ins Zimmer schleppten! Ich fuhr an die Küste Richtung Süden, wo ich zuvor viele gemütliche Restaurants gesehen hatte und kehrte in die Pergola Marioly ein, wo ich einen herrlichen grillierten Corvino mit Kartoffelpüree, Salat und natürlich den passenden Weisswein dazu genoss während ich meine Weiterreise für morgen plante…

Als ich ins Hotel zurückkam, öffnete mir der Besitzer das Tor zum Parkplatz und Claudio wartete am Laptop arbeitend im Restaurant auf mich. Das Gespräch kam schnell ins Rollen, er zeigte mir die Kupferminen im Internet und ich erzählte ihm vom meiner Reise und zeigte meine Bilder dazu. Als die Wirtin kam und erklärte, dass sie gerne das Restaurant schliessen würde, verabschiedeten wir uns und ich schlief wenige Minuten bei stetigem Meeresrauschen selig ein!

After having uploaded my recent post I took the road back to La Serena at 4 pm to take the Panamericana there direction south. When I reached the coast the display indicated 15 centigrade less, it was only 20 centigrade here! From La Serena the Panamericana is a real highway so I proceeded well with 120 km/h and at 6 pm I arrived at the Valle Encanto around 200 km further south. Here you can find lots of traces like petro glyphs of indigenous cultures who lived here around 4’000 years ago.

After a short visit in the Valle Encanto I drove further along the Panamericana and except for fog there was nothing to make out much less a hotel! At 8:30 I arrived at Los Vilos and accomodated in the Hotel Lord Willow (www.hotellordwillow.cl), where Claudio and his miner fellow gave me a hand carrying my luggage to my room when they saw me unloading all my suitcases! I drove to the coast direction south where I had spotted lots of cozy restaurants before and had a delicious grilled Corvino with mashed potatoes, salad and a white wine for dinner studying the itinerary for tomorrow…

When I came back to the hotel the owner opened the gate to the parking lot and Claudio was waiting for me working on his laptop. Soon we were in midst of interesting conversations, he showed me the copper mines in the internet and I told him about my trip and showed him pictures. When the owner came and explained that she would like to close the restaurant we said goodbye and only minutes later the sound of the ocean put me in deep sleep!
