Nach dem Frühstück gingen wir in der Gardner Bay auf der Insel Española an Land. Dort erwartete uns eine riesige Seelöwen Kolonie und leider auch viele andere Touristen. Wir liefen etwas dem Strand entlang und weil es herrliches Wetter war, beschloss ich etwas Schlaf nachzuholen und alles von einer bequemen Liegeposition zu beobachten. Als ich meine Flasche Wasser hervorholte, waren gleich zwei Spottdrosseln neben mir um etwas davon abzubekommen. Diese Vögel haben die Fähigkeit des Fliegens fast verlernt und hüpfen in der Gegend herum weil sie keine ‘Landfeinde‘ haben.
Nach einem Snack gingen wir gleich mit den Pangas zu einem Schnorchelplatz, wo wir eventuell auch Hammerhaie sehen könnten, was wir aber nicht taten. Zudem war das Wasser sehr kalt, so dass ich nach 5 Minuten und einem Minihai aufgab um mich auf dem Boden des Pangas etwas aufzuwärmen…
Nach dem Mittagessen begleiteten uns wiederum Delfine und Buckelwale zum nächsten Ankerplatz Punta Suarez, ebenfalls auf Española.
After breakfast we went on shore at Gardner Bay on Española Island. There awaited us a big colony of sea lions as well as lots of other tourists. We walked along the beach and after a while I decided to make up with some sleep and watch all from a comfortable horizontal position. The moment I grabbed by water bottle two mocking birds sat next to me wanting to get some of it. Those birds are losing their ability of flying and are hopping around because they don’t have predators on land.
Thereafter we went snorkeling to see possibly hammerhead sharks, but we didn’t. Moreover, the water was very cold and after 5 minutes and 1 minishark I gave up and went back onto the panga to warm up…
After lunch again lots of dolphins and humpback whales were accompanying us while driving to our next anchorage Punta Suarez, also on Española Island.

Am Nachmittag gingen wir in Punta Suarez, Española, an Land und machten eine 3-stündige Wanderung und sahen folgende ‘neue‘ Tiere: Rotgefärbte Meer- und Lavaechsen (bedingt durch ihre Nahrung), Albatrosse sowie – alle Vögel wie auch die Nasca- und Blaufuss-Tölpel waren am Brüten oder hatten sogar schon Junge! Die Wanderung war grösstenteils der Küste entlang, wo auch ein ca. 25 m hohes Blasloch zu sehen und hören war. Das war ein wunderschöner und interessanter Ausflug!
Nach dem Abendessen und einer Flasche Rotwein fühlte ich mich so richtig schön müde und ging für einmal früh ins Bett (22 Uhr)…

In the afternoon we went ashore on Punta Suarez, Española Island, took a 3-hours hike and saw following ‘new’ animals: Red coloured marine iguanas and lava lizards (caused by their nutrition) as well as albatrosses – all birds including Nasca- and blue-footed boobies were breading or even had chicks! The hike was mainly along the coast, where we passed an approx. 25 m blowhole. It was a fantastic and very interesting excursion!
After dinner and a bottle of wine I felt really tired and went to bed early for once (10 pm)…
