20.08.2011 Bolivia: La Paz – Copacabana – La Paz

Eigentlich hatte ich vor früh aufzustehen um Copacabana zu besuchen, das wir von Puno, Peru, aus nicht mit dem Mietwagen erreichen konnten. Da ich aber Schlaf ebenso nötig hatte, erwachte ich erst um 9:30 Uhr mit dem Wecker… 

Gemütlich ging ich zum Frühstück, packte dann den Rucksack (Hansruedi: Danke, konnte ihn schon das erste Mal benutzen!) für den Tag, stand um 11:30 Uhr vor dem Hotel und hielt das erste Taxi an. Es war Oscar. Ich hatte mich gestern schon an mehreren Orten erkundigt, wie man am besten nach Copacabana kommt: Die Preise variierten von 75 Bolivianos (ca. Fr. 15 mit dem Taxi zur Busstation und mit Minibus 3 Stunden nach Copacabana und wieder zurück) bis USD 250 (alles mit Privatführer, Isla del Sol inklusive, aber um 7:30 Uhr abfahren!) Da es schon fast Mittag war fragte ich Oscar, ob er Zeit und Lust hat mit mir nach Copacabana zu fahren… wir einigten uns auf USD 120 und die lustige Fahrt ging los!

Initially I intended to get up early because I wanted to go to Copacabana, which we weren’t able to reach by rental car from Puno, Peru. But as I had to keep up with sleep as well, I awoke with the alarm at 9:30 am...

With no rush at all I went for breakfast, packed my backpack for the day, went outside of the hotel around 11:30 am and stopped the first taxi. It was Oscar. Yesterday I got lots of information about going to Copacabana: The price range was from 75 Bolivianos (USD 18 by taxi to the main bus station and a 3 hours drive by minibus to Copacabana and back) to USD 250 (with a private guide, Isla del Sol included, what also involved leaving at 7:30 am!) Because it was already almost noon I asked Oscar if he had time to drive me to Copacabana and back… we agreed on USD 120 and off we went on our jolly ride!

Estrecho de Tiquina

Es war bedeckt und ich hoffte etwas besseres Wetter am Titicacasee zu haben… auf der Fahrt dorthin war die Cordillera Real, die schneebedeckten Berge, in den Wolken versteckt. Nach 2 Stunden gelangten wir an den Titicacasee – und zwar er auf beiden Seiten zu sehen! Am Estrecho de Tiquina wurden wir mit einer Fähre über die Seeenge gebrach; die vielen kleinen Fähren können 2 - 3 Autos aufnehmen und fahren ständig, ohne Wartezeiten.

The sky was overcast and I hoped that the weather would be better at the lake of Titicaca… unfortunately the Cordillera Real, the snowcapped mountains, were covered by clouds. After 2 hours we reached the Lake of Tikicaca – we could see it on both sides! At Estrecho de Tiquina a ferry brought us to the other side of the strait; there were loads of small ferries taking 2 or 3 cars to the other side with no waiting time.

Horta del Inca

Genau nach 3 Stunden, wie Oscar vorausgesagt hatte, erreichten wir Copacabana, ein kleines hübsches Städtchen, wo viele Peruaner mit geschmückten Autos hin pilgern. Zuerst erklommen wir aber den Horca del Inca, von wo wir einen wunderschönen Blick auf Copacabana und die Umgebung hatten.

Exactly after 3 hours, as announced by Oscar, we arrived in Copacabana, a small pretty town where lots of Peruvians pilgrim with their decorated cars. But first we climbed up Horca del Inca, from where we had a fantastic view of Copacabana and its surroundings.

Auf dem Weg ins Städtchen statten wir der Kathedrale mit der schwarzen Madonna einen kurzen Besuch ab und konnten einer Taufe beiwohnen. Zum Schluss wollten wir noch das Baño del Inca anschauen, aber es war geschlossen, so dass wir uns um 17 Uhr auf den Weg nach La Paz zurück machten…

On the way to town we visited the cathedral with its black Madonna where we could attend a baptism. At the end of our excursion we intended to go to Baño del Inca, but it was closed, so headed back to La Paz at 5 pm…

Danach ging es an den Strand, wo wir etwas zu Mittag assen und einen Mojito an der Sonne genossen! Ich musste einige Male nachrechnen, denn ich glaubte bei der Kursumrechnung einen Rechenfehler gemacht zu haben, aber 2 Mojitos kosteten tatsächlich USD 3 (20 Bolivianos)!!!

Thereafter we hit to the beach where we had lunch and a Mojito in the sun! I had to calculate again and again, because I believed having made a mistake when converting the currencies, but 2 Mojitos were in fact USD 3 (20 Bolivianos)!!!

Abenstimmung am Titicacasee / evening mood at the Lake of Titicaca

 

Das Wetter war übrigens viel besser am Titicacasee und auch auf dem Weg zurück wurden wir mit einem fantastischen Blick auf die Cordillera Real und den Nevado Chacaltaya belohnt. Der Chacaltaya (5395 m) war übrigens bis 2006 das höchstgelegenste Skigebiet der Welt bis durch Klimaveränderungen aller Schnee schmolz…

Um 20 Uhr erreichten wir das Hotel und verabredeten uns für morgen um 13:30 Uhr für den Transport zum Flughafen. Wir tauschten (zum Glück!) unsere Telefonnummern aus und verabschiedeten uns nach einem wundervollen Tag.

Nach einer herrlichen Dusche versuchte ich mich im Internet bei Aerosur für morgen einzuchecken, aber es funktionierte nicht! An der Reception fanden man heraus, dass mein Flug 4 Stunden vorverschoben war: Anstatt um 16:10 Uhr ging er jetzt um 12:00 Uhr! Ich beschloss noch keine Massnahmen zu treffen ausser den Wecker auf 8 Uhr zu stellen um morgen früh nochmals nachzufragen…

Munter fuhr ich in den 15. Stock hinauf, wo mich Joel schon mit einem breiten Lächeln erwartete! Galant wurde ich an den besten Tisch mit atemberaubender Sicht auf La Paz by night geführt und wieder einmal hatte ich die Qual der Wahl… den Wein hatte ich schnell gewählt, einen bolivianischen Chardonnay, der auch in 3/8 Flaschen erhältlich war. Danach entschied ich mich für Jakobsmuscheln überbacken mit Parmesan, Forelle an Mandelsauce mit Gemüse und Kartoffelstock und als Dessert Flan Caramel…. Mmmhhhhh! Und alles für 200 Bolivianos (USD 30) - oder rechne ich wirklich falsch???

Joel lud mich noch ein das Nachtleben in La Paz kennen zu lernen, da ich aber müde war und früh aufstehen musste, vertröstete ich ihn auf ein anderes Mal…

The weather was much nicer at the Titicaca Lake and on our way back we were rewarded with a fantastic view of the Cordillera Real and the Nevado Chacaltaya. By the way, Chacaltaya (5395 m) was the highest ski area in the world until 2006 when all the snow melted due to change of climate…

At 8 pm we arrived at the hotel, parted after a wonderful day and agreed to meet tomorrow at 2:30 pm for the transfer to the airport. Luckily we exchanged our telephone numbers…

After a wonderful hot shower I tried the web check-in of Aerosur, but it didn’t work! At the reception they found out that my flight was changed and would leave 4 hours earlier, i.e. at noon instead of 4:10 pm! I decided not to take any actions yet besides of setting the alarm clock at 8 am to investigate once more tomorrow morning…

Cheerfully I went up the 15^th floor where Joel awaited me with a big smile! He took me to the best table with a breathtaking view of La Paz by night and once more I had difficulties to decide which menu to choose… I had no problems with finding a Bolivian Chardonnay they offered in half bottles though! Eventually I made up my mind and went for the scallops with grilled parmesan, a trout in almond sauce with vegetables and mashed potatoes and a flan caramel for desert … Mmmhhhhh! And all for 200 Bolivians (USD 30) - or is my calculation really wrong???

Joel invited me to the nightlife of La Paz, but unfortunately I was too tired so I put him off for another time…
