02.08.2011 Ecuador: Galapagos – Isla Genovesa

Heute Morgen weckte mich die Glocke zum Frühstück und als ich bemerkte, dass ich noch das Kleid von gestern Abend trug, kam mir die Erinnerung an den feucht-fröhlichen Abend… leider war es schlimmer als ich dachte, denn auf dem Panga Richtung Genovesa musste ich das ganze Frühstück wieder hergeben…

This morning the breakfast bell woke me up and when I noticed that I was still wearing my dress of last night, memories of the merry night came back one by one… unfortunately it was worse than I thought, because during the panga ride ashore to Genovesa Island I had to feed the fish with my breakfast…

So nutzte ich während unserer Morgenwanderung in El Barranco auf Genovesa jede Gelegenheit eine horizontale Stellung einzunehmen und nahm die ‘neuen‘ Tiere nur von sehr weitem wahr… Melanie übernahm meinen Fotografenjob, so dass ich heute Abend wenigstens nachverfolgen konnte, was ich verpasst hatte: Tropikvögel, Rotfusstölpel und Eulen!

Zurück an Bord gab es einen Snack und danach machten wir uns auf im Krater Darwin’s Bay schnorcheln zu gehen und vielleicht endlich Hammerhaie zu sehen. Der Ausflug begann vielversprechend, gleich am Anfang sahen wir so viele Rochen, dass fast nichts mehr vom Boden zu erkennen war. Kurz darauf wurde Quallen Alarm gerufen und noch bevor wir in den Pangas waren, hatte es die meisten von uns erwischt – mich unter anderem am Hals, was höllisch schmerzte und nicht aufzuhören schien. Ich legte mich ins Bett, verpasste das Mittagessen, schlief etwas und erwachte um 14:30 wie Phönix aus der Asche, bereit für die nächste Exkursion!

During our morning walk on El Barranco, Genovesa Island, I took advantage of every opportunity to lie down and therefore noticed the ‘new’ animals only vaguely… Melanie took over my job as photographer, so that I was able to catch up tonight what I had missed: topic birds, red-footed boobies and owls!

Back on board we had a snack and got ready for snorkeling in the crater of Darwin’s Bay to see hopefully hammerhead sharks. The excursion started promising, right at the start we spotted lots of rays which covered the whole ground. Only a short time later someone we were alarmed that there were jellyfish and we had to leave the water immediately, but most of us got stung while swimming back to the pangas - I got stung among other places in my neck, it hurt terribly and seemed not to stop! I lay down in my cabin, missed lunch, got some sleep and woke up at 2:30 pm like freshly born and ready for our next excursion!

Am Nachmittag machten wir eine Küstenwanderung in Darwin’s Bay und ich konnte die meisten der verpassten Tiere doch noch bestaunen und auch Fotos machen! ; )

Das war der letzte Tag auf Galapagos, heute Abend heisst es packen und morgen Mittag werden wir wieder nach Guayaquil fliegen… Der Aufenthalt hier war sagenhaft, nicht mit Worten zu beschreiben – man muss es erlebt haben so nah mit den Tieren in ihrer einzigartigen Natur verbringen zu können!

In the afternoon we went for a walk along the coast in Darwin’s Bay, Genovesa Island,  and I was able to see and take pictures of most of the animals I had missed in the morning! ; )

This was our last day on the Galapagos Islands, tonight we have to pack our suitcases and tomorrow noon we will fly back to Guayaquil… Our journey here was incredible, I cannot describe with words – you have to have experienced it and spent time so close with all the animal in its unique habitat!
