| Zug nach Aguas Calientes / train to Aguas Calientes |
Letzte Nacht ging ich viel zu früh zu Bett, denn um 3:30 Uhr war ich schon wach… um 4 Uhr ging ich unter die Dusche und 4:30, als der Wecker ging, war ich schon fast bereit den Machu Picchu zu erobern! Um 5:15 sassen wir beim Frühstück und eine halbe Stunde später waren wir schon am Bahnhof und gingen an Bord der Expedition der Perurail, dem ersten Zug des Tages! Wir waren überrascht: Wie im Flugzeug waren die Sitzplätze zugewiesen und es gab einen Snack!
Last night I must have gone to bed too early because I woke up at 3:30 am… at 4 am I took a shower and at 4:30 am, when the alarm went off, I was almost ready to conquer the Machu Picchu! At 5:15 am we had breakfast and half an hour later we were at the train station boarding the Expedition of Perurail, the first train of the day! We were surprised: Like in an airplane the seats were reserved and a snack was served!
Die 1 ½ Stunden Fahrt durch das Urubamba Tal war wunderschön, wir konnten die Berge sogar durch Dachfenster bestaunen! In Aguas Calientes angekommen, liefen wir durch eine Markhalle und über eine Brücke zur Bushaltestelle um die Bustickets zu besorgen. Nur 5 Minuten später sassen wir im Bus, der uns die Serpentinstrasse hinauf auf Naturstrassen zum Machu Picchu fuhr. Wir waren jetzt schon still vor lauter Staunen – eine unglaubliche Bergwelt eröffnete sich uns!
We had a very scenic journey of 1 ½ hours and even could enjoy the landscape through panoramic roof windows! When we arrived at Aguas Calientes, we walked through a market hall and over a bridge to reach the ticket booth and the bus to Machu Picchu. Only 5 minutes later we sat in the bus which drove us up the narrow nature path to Machu Picchu and unbelievable scenery arose before our eyes!

Und um 8:30 Uhr hatten wir unser Ziel erreicht: Machu Picchu! Es war unglaublich, wir hatten schon so viele Bilder gesehen, aber sich nun dort zu befinden, ist unbeschreiblich! Wir hatten herrliches Wetter und am Anfang noch nicht zu viele Touristen, so dass wir uns zuerst einmal einfach davor setzten, die Sicht genossen und unser restliches Frühstück vertilgten. Danach machten wir uns auf die Wanderschaft, zuerst zur Puente Inca (Inkabrücke) und dann zum Intipunku (Tor zur Sonne), wo wir nochmals die Sicht an der Sonne liegend genossen. Zum Schluss wanderten wir durch die Ruinen und wie so oft frage uns ein Jüngling mit der Kamera in der Hand: 'Foto?' Ich sagte ja und wollte ihn ablichten bis ich merkte, dass er ein Foto mit mir wollte! Danach kam noch eine ganze Schar und ich poste mit ihnen - ob die wohl bemerkt haben, dass ich eine Sonnenprinzessin bin? ; ) Danach legten wir uns nochmals eine Stunde auf eine Terrasse an die Sonne mit Sicht auf den Machu Picchu, bevor wir mit dem Bus wieder zurück nach Aguas Calientes fuhren.
In Aguas Calientes hatten wir noch eine Stunde Zeit bis unser Zug fuhr, so dass wir bei einem Pina Colada einen Jass spielten (ich gewann!).
Unser Zug auf der Rückfahrt war ein Vistadome, eine höhere Klasse, was man auch deutlich bemerkte: Noch bequemere Sitze, eine sehr ruhige Fahrt und ein feudalerer Snack.
Als wir zurück ins Hotel kamen, war unsere Wäsche gewaschen (5 kg für 30 Soles) und schon bald machten wir auf ins Dorf. Das Abendessen nahmen wir in einem Restaurant ein, das die Receptionistin uns empfahl – super, das beste Preis-Leistungsverhältnis, das wir bisher hatten!

And at 8:30 we reached our destination: Machu Picchu! It is difficult to describe in words – we have seen so many pictures but being there is totally different! We had wonderful weather and not too many tourists at the beginning, so we sat on a terrace with the view to the ruins and had the rests of our breakfast. Thereafter we went for a walk to the Puente Inca (Inkabridge) and the Intipunku (Sungate), where we had another rest sitting in the sun and enjoying the fantastic view of Machu Picchu. Finally we took a walk through the ruins and like many time before a youngster asked me: 'Photo'? I said yes and wanted to take a picture of him until I realized that he wanted one with me! After him came a whole bunch I has a photo session with them - if they recognized me as one of the sun princesses? ; ) Thereafter we had a last snooze on a terrace at the sun admiring the great view before we drove down to Aguas Calientes by bus.
In Aguas Calientes we had another hour time which we spent with a Pina Colada and a card game (I won!) ; )
Our train on the way back to Ollantaytambo was a Vistadome, a higher class with even more comfortable seats, higher standard of snack and very calm.
When we arrived at the hotel our laundry was made (5 kg for 30 Soles) and soon we took the road into the village to have dinner at a restaurant our landlord had suggested. It was absolutely great - best quality in a warm atmosphere!
