Wir kamen um 13 Uhr in Punta Arenas an und ich nahm ein Taxi, das mich und mein vieles Gepäck zum Büro der Australis brachte. Dort konnte ich bereits einchecken und mein Gepäck deponieren, das am Nachmittag vom Personal aufs Schiff in meine Kabine gebracht werden würde. Ich setzte mich gegenüber ins Café Corsini um meinen langersehnten Espresso zu geniessen und meine e-mails zu bearbeiten. Danach fuhr ich mit einem Collectivo (Taxis mit Nummern, die wie Busse eine vorgeschriebene Route fahren) zur duty-free Zone Zona Franca und suchte ein Geschäft auf, das Nikon Fotokameras verkauft. Der Angestellte sagte mir, dass er hier die Linse nicht reparieren konnte, das sei nur in Santiago de Chile oder halt erst in der Schweiz möglich… so entschied ich eine neue, noch grössere zu kaufen (18-270 mm)! Glücklich darüber, dass ich jetzt wieder Fotos schiessen konnte, fuhr ich zurück in die Stadt, feierte es bei einem Café Mejicana und schrieb meine letzen e-mails, da wir auf See keinerlei Empfang haben werden…
This morning at 7:30 am I took the opportunity to go once again for a run along the coast as I won’t have the chance for it in the next few days on the MV Via Australis! Back at the Hotel Capitán Eberhard I made myself ready for the bus ride to Punta Arenas and went for breakfast at 9:30 am. Shortly after 10 am Bus Fernández stopped at the hotel to pick me up and off we went on our 3-hours drive to Punta Arenas whereof I slept most of the time to make up for last night!
We arrived at Punta Arenas at 1 am and as I had lots of luggage I took a taxi to the Australis office where I could check in already and leave my suitcases which would be transported to my cabin later on. I went across to the Café Corsini to have my long desired espresso and checked my e-mails. Thereafter I went by collectivo (taxis with numbers which follow a certain route like busses) to the duty-free Zona Franca and looked for a shop where they sell Nikon cameras. The employee told me that they only sell cameras and the lent could only be repaired in Santiago de Chile or back in Switzerland… so I decided to buy a new and even bigger one (18-270 mm)! Happy to be able to shoot more pictures I drove back to town to celebrate my purchase with a café mejicana and write my last e-mails as I won’t have any reception what so ever on the ocean…

Um 18 Uhr wurden wir per Bus zur MV Via Australis (http://www.australis.com/site/rutas-e-itinerarios/ruta-punta-arenas-ushuaia) gefahren und in unsere Kabinen eingewiesen. Endlich hatte ich wieder einmal die Gelegenheit meine Koffer auszupacken und mich einzurichten, denn diesmal blieb ich nicht nur eine Nacht, wie an den meisten Orten meiner Reise! Eine Stunde später wurden wir in der Sky Lounge zum Captain’s Cocktail empfangen, über das Wichtigste informiert, die gesamte Crew wurde uns vorgestellt und eine Gruppe führte eine folkloristische Darbietung vor. Ich liess es mir mit einigen Cüpli gut gehen!

At 6 pm we were brought by bus to the MV Via Australis (http://www.australis.com/site/rutas-e-itinerarios/ruta-punta-arenas-ushuaia) and guided to our cabins. I considered it worthwhile unpacking my suitcases and making myself home as I didn’t stay for one night only as at most of the places during my journey! An hour later we were invited to the Sky Lounge for captain’s cocktail and were informed about the most important things on board. The crew presented themselves and we could watch a folkloristic show. I had myself treated with a few glasses of Chilean champagne!

Um 20 Uhr liefen wir aus und versammelten uns kurz danach im gediegenen Speisesaal um das Abendessen einzunehmen. Da ich beim Einchecken wählen durfte, sass ich an einem spanisch sprechenden Tisch und hatte exzellente Gesellschaft mit Siliva und Oscar aus Argentinien und Gabriela und Luis aus Mexico! (Übrigens befinden sich 104 Passagiere aus 16 Nationen an Bord!) Nach dem ausgezeichneten Abendessen ging ich nochmals an die Sky-Bar zu Emilio und genoss einen Brandy bevor ich todmüde in mein herrliches Bett fiel…

At 8 pm we left Punta Arenas and subsequently had dinner in the tastful dining room. Having the choice when checking in, I sat on a Spanish speaking table and had excellent company of Silvia and Oscar from Argentina and Gabriela and Luis from Mexico! (By the way there are 104 passengers of 16 nations on board!) After a delicious dinner I went back to Emilio at the Sky-Bar to have one for the road (a brandy) before I dropped into my wonderful bed very, very tired…
