After breakfast in a noble hall of the Hacienda Pinsaqui we had an early start because there were about 400 km to drive in direction coast….
Wir fuhren durch die Anden talabwärts und mussten schon nach 2 Stunden die warmen Kleider ablegen und uns dem tropisch-heissen Klima anpassen. Der Tank war noch ¼ voll und wie gewohnt war in den Bergen weit und breit keine Tankstelle zu sehen… glücklicherweise ging alles bergab, so dass wir es gerade zur nächsten Tankstelle schafften! Das Benzin ist sehr billig hier: USD 2 für 1 Gallone (= 3,8 Liter).
Die Landschaft wechselte vom grünen Bergland zum tropischen Jungel und am Strassenrand wurden wieder allerlei Früchte und Gemüse angepriesen. In einem der Dörfchen war eine grosse Ansammlung von Leuten, wir mussten natürlich unsere Neugier stillen und hielten an: Ein Fussballmatch im Schlamm fand statt! Übrigens: Die Leute um Esmeraldas sind schwarz, ehemalige Sklaven, die hier gestrandet sind…
We drove down the Andes and had to change our warm clothes and adapt to the hot tropical climate. Our tank had only ¼ gas left and as usual there was no gas station far and wide in the mountains… luckily it all went downwards and we made it to the next gas station! Gas is very cheap here: USD 2 for 1 gallon (3,8 litre).
The landscape changed from green mountains to tropical jungle and on the sides of the street all kinds of fruit and vegetable were sold. Suddenly, in a small village there was a crowd of people and as we are very curious we stopped to see what was going on: It was a football match in the mud! By the way: In the region of Esmeraldas the people are black – an African tribe who stranded here as slaves…

Melanie lotste uns zur Playa Escondida, die 10 km von der Hauptstrasse entfernt war, zu den Cabañas Cumilinche (http://www.cumilincheclub.com.ec/) – eine weitere wahre Überraschung! Wir kamen um 18 Uhr an, gerade richtig um im herrlich warmen Pazifik zu schwimmen und den Sonnenuntergang am Strand zu geniessen!
Melanie guided us to Playa Escondida, 10 km off the main road, to the Cabañas Cumilinche (http://www.cumilincheclub.com.ec/) – another real surprise! We arrived there at 6 pm, just in time to take a dip in the warm Pacific and see the sunset from the beach!
