07.07.2011 Abschied von zuhause / Goodbye home sweet home

Hallo meine Lieben

Ich habe keine Ahnung wie oft ich unterwegs eine Internetverbindung habe, ich werde aber wann immer möglich diesen Blog mit meinen neusten Erfahrung und Fotos aktivieren – viel Spass beim Lesen, Kommentare (bitte auch Fehlermeldungen) sind immer willkommen, entweder direkt auf dem Blog oder per e-mail, danke!

Am Abend vor unserer Abreise hatten wir noch Abschiedsbesuch von Brige, Doris und Monika – danke euch! So sind wir nach einem netten Abend mit wenig Schlaf und viel Übergepäck gestartet: Um 6 Uhr mussten wir am Flughafen Zürich einchecken. Dort warteten weitere Abschiedsgäste auf uns: Christina, Susi und Bruno – auch euch ein herzliches Dankeschön, dass ihr so früh aufgestanden seid!

I have no idea if and where I will have internet connection while travelling, but I try to upload my reports and pictures whenever possible - have fun reading and travelling a bit with me in this manner! Comments (please also notice of mistakes) are always welcome whether directly on the blog or by e-mail, thanks!

The evening before Melanie and I left my friends Bridget, Doris and Monika came to celebrate a welfare party… we had a good time but the next morning we had to get started with only two hours sleep and arrived at the airport at 6 am with lots of excess baggage. At the check in there were Christina, Susi and Bruno waiting to have a last coffee with us!

Die Flüge verliefen planmässig, nur in Madrid war etwas Chaos beim Transfer, da wir noch keine Boardingpässe für den Weiterflug besassen… eine energische Informationsangestellte zeigte uns nach zweimaliger Zurückweisung am Transfereingang den Hintereingang zum Iberia-Schalter! Der LAN Flug war super: Bequeme Sessel mit viel Platz, individuell einstellbares und sehr gutes Unterhaltungsprogramm, zweimal warmes Essen und absolut freundliches Personal!

The flights were on schedule, we only had a bit of chaos at the airport in Madrid when transferring to our flight to Guayaquil. As we had no boarding pass yet the authorities didn’t let us pass but a tough information assistant showed us the ways through the back doors where we arrived at the Iberia desk and received our boarding passes! We enjoyed our LAN flight with very comfortable seats, a fantastic entertainment programme, two hot meals and absolutely friendly staff!

In Guayaquil nahmen wir unser Mietauto in Empfang, einen Hyundai mit Sicherheitsparkschloss! In nur 15 Minuten waren wir beim Hotel, das wir dann nach Suchen, weil es nicht angeschrieben war, und Einbahnstrassen hin und her fahren doch noch fanden! 

In Guayaquil we picked up our rental car (a small Hyundai with a safety lock!) and drove to our hotel, only 15 minutes away. Getting there was easy, but finding the hotel took us a while because there were no signs and lots of one way streets… but finally we made it and a heavy armed park guard showed us where to park.

Das Grand Hotel (http://www.grandhotelguayaquil.com/) ist zu empfehlen: Bewachtes Parking, Pool mit Wasserfall und tropischen Pflanzen, herrliches Frühstücksbuffet und einen Willkommensdrink an der Bar! Dort haben wir Tadeo und Luciano kennen gelernt, die mit einem U-Boot von Rio de Janeiro über den Panamakanal bis nach Lima gefahren und jetzt auf dem Rückweg sind, die ganze Reise dauert 6 Monate! Natürlich haben die beiden uns eine ganze Liste geschrieben, damit wir in Rio nichts verpassen… (Übrigens Nadine: Oktober ist das ideale Reisewetter und Doris: Januar ist es sehr, sehr heiss!) Todmüde gingen wir so um 23 Uhr ins Bett – wir waren seit 26 Stunden auf den Beinen oder eben am Sitzen!

We can recommend the Grand Hotel (http://www.grandhotelguayaquil.com/) with its tropical plants, waterfall and pool, nice rooms and a great breakfast buffet. Just before we hit the sack we went for a welcome drink in the bar and met Tadeo and Luciano from Rio de Janeiro who came all the way by submarine through the Panama Canal to Lima and back, which will take 6 months in total! When they heard that I am going to be in Rio in October they made me a big list with everything I have to do and see! (Cadu: So at least I can contribute a bit to our journey through Brazil! ; )

At 11 pm after being up 26 hours we finally got to bed very, very tired…
