Ich war schon sehr früh wach, die strahlende Sonne weckte mich durch die gezogenen dicken Vorhänge… da ich nicht weiss, ob ich später diese Woche in den Bergen irgendwo zum Joggen komme und der Jungel es mir angetan hatte, machte ich mich nochmals auf meine Tour… allerlei Tierlaute begleiteten mich, aber ich musste mich auf den Weg konzentrieren um nicht im Schlamm stecken zu bleiben. Anschliessend ging ich im Pool schwimmen – herrlich so einen Start in den Tag!
The sun woke me up through the thick curtains early in the morning. Because I had no idea if I will be able to go for a run in the mountains later on this week and because I like jogging in the jungle so much, I decided to go for another run… I heard lots of different sounds of animals but I had to concentrate not stepping in the mud, so no time to worry about sounds! When I got back to the hotel I took a long swim in the pool – what a wonderful start of a day!

Beim Frühstück gesellten sich zwei Papageie zu uns. Papageie darf man hier in Ecuador nicht gefangen halten, Paco und Rosita sind frei, aber an Leute gewohnt und auch an deren Fütterung!
Nach dem Frühstück genossen wir nochmals den Pool und die tropische Wärme, Melanie surfte im Internet und fand heraus, dass sie alle Semester-Prüfungen bestanden hatte - ich bin ja sooo stolz!
When we had breakfast two parrots came to our table: Paco and Rosita. Here in Ecuador it is forbidden to keep parrots in capture, our two visitors are free parrots who are used to humans and their feeding!
After breakfast we enjoyed once more the pool and the tropical climate. Melanie surfed in the internet and found out that she had passed all her term exams – I’m so proud!

Wir packten unsere Koffer aufs Boot und fuhren nach Misahualli zum gut bewachten Parkplatz unseres Autos und machten uns auf Richtung Cotopaxi Nationalpark. Unterwegs sahen wir überall rote Bohnen eingekreist von grossen Steinen am Strassenrand, bei einer Nachfrage wurde uns erklärt, dass das Kakaobohnen zum trocknen waren… Schon bald waren wir wieder in den Anden und es wurde empfindlich kalt, so dass wir unser Sommerkleidchen mit warmen Kleidern ergänzen mussten! Hier noch etwas zu den Strasse und zum Fahrstil: Die Strassen sind gut und sehr breit, das vor allem beim Überholen wichtig ist. Überholt wird eigentlich immer, egal ob es eine doppelte Sicherheitsline und Überholverbot hat, so haben wir auch Busse gesehen, die noch 3 Autos in einer Kurve überholten! Aber wie gesagt, die Strassen sind so breit, dass jeder auf die rechte Seite rückt.
We packed out suitcases and drove by boat to Misahaulli to the parking of our car and took the road to Cotopaxi National Park. On the way we noticed lots of red beans circled by huge stones on the sides of the street, when we inquired we learnt that it was cacao beans spread to dry! Only one hour later we were in the middle of the Andes and it got very cold, so that we had to put all our warm clothes over our summer dresses… At this place I want to mention something regarding the streets and the style of driving of the Ecuadorians: The streets are well prepared and very broad – the latter is very vital when passing. Here they pass on every occasion, even if there is a double security line and a sign ‘surpassing forbidden’! Once we even had a bus overtaking 3 cars in a curve! Fortunately the streets are very broad and everybody drives as much to the right as possible!

Um 19 Uhr kamen wir in Lasso in der Hacienda La Cienéga (http://www.hosterialacienega.com/) an, wir benötigten 6 Stunden für 250 km! Der Anblick der Hotels setzte uns ins Staunen: Eine lange Allee führte zum 350 Jahre alten Anwesen. Unser Zimmer war riesengross mit Cheminee, das brannte, als wir vom Abendessen zurückkamen… ein Traum! xxxFranziska & Melanie
We arrived at the Hacienda la Cienéga (http://www.hosterialacienega.com/) in Lasso at 7 pm and it took us 6 hours to drive 250 km! When we drove up the long alley to the 350 years old hotel we just couldn’t believe our eyes what we saw – a fantastic property! Our room was huge and when we came back from dinner, the fireplace was lit… a dream! xxxFranziska & Melanie
