Auch in der Hacienda La Cienéga gab es ein herrliches Frühstück – ich glaube es ist an der Zeit zu schildern, was so gut daran ist: Neben den gewohnten warmen Getränken (Kaffee, Tee oder Kakao) gibt es immer einen frischen Fruchtsaft (meistens tomates de arbol) frische Früchte, Eier jeglicher Art, immer andere Brötchen mit verschiedenen einheimischen Marmeladen… mmmhhhhh!
There was another wonderful breakfast waiting for us in the Hacienda La Cienéga – I guess it is time to mention why the breakfasts in Ecuador are so delicious: Besides hot beverages (coffee, tea and cocoa) you always get a fresh fruit juice (mainly tomates de arbol), fresh fruits, any style of eggs, different bread and local jam… mmmhhhhh!

Nach dem Frühstück und Besuch im Internet machten wir uns auf zum Cotopaxi Nationalpark und fuhren auf Naturpisten bis über 4000 m hoch in den Schnee und genossen die wunderschöne Landschaft. Cotopaxi ist der höchste aktive schneebedeckte Vulkan der Welt (5897 m).
After breakfast and a visit on the internet we took the road to the Cotopaxi National Park. We drove up along natural streets to over 4000 m in the snow and enjoyed the wonderful landscape. Cotopaxi is the highest active snowcapped volcano in the world (5897 m).

Danach ging es an den Flughafen von Quito, denn um 16:25 landete Hansruedi. Wie immer war natürlich keine Wegbeschreibung weit und breit zu sehen, so dass wir nach reiner Intuition die Strassen wählten. Wir befuhren so die Osttangente entlang der 45 km langen Stadt, bis Melanie eine Strasse auf der Karte erkannte, die signalisiert war. Mitten in der Stadt angekommen, kurbelte ich das Fenster runter um zu fragen, in welcher Richtung sich der Flughafen befindet. Ich hatte Glück, die Señora fuhr ebenfalls zum Flughafen, so konnte ich ihr nur hinterher stechen! Wir parkierten das Auto und trafen ein, als die Iberia Maschine landete… 45 Minuten später traf auch Hansruedi ein!
At 4:25 pm we had to pick up Hansruedi at the airport in Quito. Getting there was a kind of adventure, as once again nothing was signed out… so we chose the road intuitively and got on the bypass east along the 45 km long city until Melanie recognized a name of a street signed out on the map that lead us into the middle of Quito. No idea where to go, I asked a woman in a car next to me for directions – I was lucky, she had to go to the airport as well and we could simply follow her! We parked the car and entered the arrival hall when the Iberia machine landed… and 45 minutes later Hansruedi arrived!

Die Fahrt zum Hotel war ein echtes Abenteuer: Sehr viel Verkehr und noch mehr Einbahnstrassen! Zum Glück hatte ich die beste Copilotin der Welt neben mir sitzen (Melanie kann nicht nur Karten lesen, sonder kennt sich auch in allen Funktionen im Cockpit aus!), die uns sicher vor die Tür des Hotel San Francisco de Quito (http://www.sanfranciscodequito.com.ec/) mitten in der Altstadt brachte. Wir luden unser Gepäck aus und stellten das Auto 5 Blocks weiter in einem bewachten Parking ab.
The next adventure was getting to the hotel in the historic part of the city: Lots of traffic and even more one-way streets! Fortunately I had the best copilot guiding me you can imagine (Melanie not only knows to read maps but also handles well all the functions of the cockpit!). She led us directly to the door of the Hotel San Francisco of Quito! We unloaded our baggage and parked the car in a guarded parking 5 blocks away.

La Ronda in Quito

Um 19 Uhr hatten wir mit Peter Lauffer (http://www.ecuadortraveler.com/), bei dem wir die Galapagos Kreuzfahrt gebucht hatten, abgemacht. Als ‘richtiger Schweizer‘ holte er uns natürlich pünktlich ab und machte mit uns eine Stadtführung by night – ein wunderschöner Einstieg, danke Peter! Wir gingen zusammen in einem hübschen Restaurant essen, hatten viel zu fragen und auszutauschen und besuchten danach eine Music Bar im La Ronda Quartier, dem ältesten Teil Quitos. Natürlich waren wir leicht zu überreden verschiedene typische Getränke zu versuchten und fielen darauf todmüde in unsere Betten… Bis heute haben wir übrigens etwas mehr als 1000 km abgefahren!

At 7 pm we had an appointment with Peter Lauffer (http://www.ecuadortraveler.com/), who booked us the cruise on the Galapagos archipelago. As a ‘real Swiss’ he showed up on time and took us for a walk through the historic part by night – wonderful! We went for dinner in a nice restaurant, had lots to inquire and talk about and after to a music bar in the oldest part of Quito called La Ronda. Of course we were not denied to try different local drinks and fell to bed very, very tired later on… By the way: Up to today we drove more than 1000 km!
