goodbye Argentina

Obwohl es gestern Abend eher spät wurde, erwachte ich vor dem Wecker um 8 Uhr. Ich machte mich reisebereit und wir gingen um 9:30 Uhr frühstücken, es regnete in Strömen! Eine Stunde später waren wir bereit für die Fahrt von ca. 150 km nach Buenos Aires. Da es aber heftig regnete und viel Verkehr unterwegs war, entschieden wir direkt an den Flughafen zu fahren und nicht erst in die Stadt um das Auto zurückzugeben. Ich hatte zuvor schon einige Nachrichten an Gabriel, unsere Ansprechperson, geschickt aber keine Antwort erhalten. Am Flughafen rief ich ihn an, aber niemand antwortete, darauf versuchte ich den Festnetzanschluss und sein Kollege erklärte mir, dass Gabriel in Urlaub sei, jedoch schon jemand am Flughafen auf uns wartete um das Auto entgegenzunehmen… perfekt!

Ich checkte meine zwei Koffer ohne Probleme bei LAN ein, eine Stunde später war auch der Lufthansa-Schalter offen und Doris konnte ihren Koffer abgeben. Nun setzten wir uns in ein Flughafenrestaurant um unser letztes argentinisches Pesos in Champagner umzuwandeln… Als ich um 16 Uhr einsteigen wollte, stellte ich mit Schrecken fest, dass mein Flug nach Santiago de Chile 2 Stunden Verspätung hatte! Ich suchte das nächste LAN Personal auf, das gerade eine Sitzung hatten und für mich auch die perfekte Lösung: Anstatt um 16:45 Uhr von Buenos Aires zurück nach Santiago de Chile und von dort über Madrid nach Zürich zu fliegen, brachte mich nun die Lufthansa um 18:10 Uhr via Frankfurt nach Zürich… das noch 4 Stunden schneller… und mit Doris, als ob wir den Rückflug zusammen gebucht hätten!

 

Das ist nun das Ende meiner langen fast 7-monatigen Reise durch Südamerika: Ecuador mit Galapagos, Peru, Bolivien, Brasilien, Chile und Argentinien! Es war ein fantastisches Erlebnis und ich bin stolz auf mich selber, dass ich es einfach tue… Südamerika hat mir viele verschiedene Gesichter gezeigt und mich mit seiner Schönheit verzaubert, einzig Argentinien hat uns beide in jeder Hinsicht bitter enttäuscht - das ist definitiv kein Land wohin ich zurückkehren werde…

In spite of a late night yesterday I woke up before the alarm at 8 am. I made myself and my suitcases ready for departure and we went for breakfast at 9:30 am, it was raining cats and dogs! An hour later we took the road of about 150 km to Buenos Aires. As it was still raining heavily and there was lots of traffic on the way we decided to drive directly to the airport and not first into town to return the rental car. I already had sent several messages to Gabriel, our contact person, but there was no answer of him. At the airport I called him, nobody answered, so I tried the fixed phone line and his colleague explained that Gabriel was on holidays but there was already somebody waiting at the airport to collect the car… perfect! 

I checked in my 2 suitcases with LAN without any problem, an hour later the Lufthansa desk opened and Doris was able the drop off her baggage. Now we went to the next restaurant to exchange our last Argentinean pesos into champagne… When I wanted to board at 4 pm I noticed horror stricken that my flight was 2 hours delayed! I went to look for the next LAN assistants who were in a reunion and already had the perfect solution for me: instead of flying from Buenos Aires back to Santiago de Chile at 16:45 and from there via Madrid to Zürich, I was now brought by Lufthansa at 18:10 via Frankfurt to Zürich… even 4 hours faster… and with Doris, as if we had booked the flight together!

This now is the end of my long almost 7-months journey through South America: Ecuador with Galapagos, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile and Argentina! It was a fantastic experience and I am proud of myself just having done it… South America has showed me lots of different faces and enchanted me with its beauty, only Argentina has disappointed us both from every point of view – it’s definitely not a country I will go back to…
